Geetanjali Hospital’s Onco Surgeons’ Successful Surgery
Udaipur : Geetanjali Medical College & Hosptial’s Oncology Surgeons Dr. Ashish Jakhetiya & Dr. Arun Pandey have successfully performed Radical Cystectomy (surgery for bladder cancer) recently. The surgery was done on an 81 years old patient, L N Toshniwal, hailing from Chittorgarh district, who was suffering from bladder cancer. The surgical procedure in which the bladder is removed called radical cystectomy was performed. As bladder cancer tends to spread to other areas of the body, so the bladder and the surrounding organs were removed.
“He underwent surgery with due risk in view of his age, which lasted for around 6 hours in which his urinary bladder and surrounding lymph nodes were removed and ureters (urine pipes) were implanted in an intestinal segment. The patient recovered well and started eating after 6 days and was discharged from hospital after 10 days. Patients’ in view of advanced age and fear of losing urinary bladder usually refuses surgery but ultimately have massive bleeding in urine and remain untreated,” said Dr. Ashish & Dr. Arun.
The team of doctors involving the two onco surgeons also included anesthetist Dr. Naveen Patidar and OT staff Hitesh, Raju, Anil, Labhchand and Jitender who had played an important role in surgery and management. So the team wants to convey that advanced cancer surgery is possible in such advanced age and aggressive tumor. This surgery and good recovery was the result of dedicated cancer care team at Geetanjali Cancer Centre where an 81 years old patient recovered well after such prolonged and extensive surgery.
The patient L N Toshniwal, 81 years old male, reported with complaints of blood coming mixed with urine for past 2-3 months. He consulted many physicians and surgeons before coming to Geetanjali Cancer Centre. On consultation with Dr. Ashish & Dr. Arun & investigations of CT Scan & Cystectomy bladder cancer was confirmed.
