Udaipur: Geetanjali Medical College & Hosptial’s Cardiologists Dr. Ramesh Patel & Dr. Danny Kumar along with Neuro-Vascular Interventional Radiologist Dr. Seetaram Barath have successfully performed the first Coiling for a tumor of blood formally called as, Coronary Arti-venous Fistula, near heart recently. The surgery was done on a 14 years old young girl hailing from local district, who was suffering from chest pain & breathlessness. This was a form of minimally invasive procedure of going through the arteries of legs and blocking the flow of blood through these veins by coiling.
“The procedure lasted only 30 minutes where in, through veins of the legs with the help of a catheter the blood circulated was choked by the coils. Thus, this avoided an open heart surgery. On further investigations it was moreover confirmed that the veins of heart that carries blood were circulating the blood in turn the tumor making it grow big. Such tumors, formerly called as Coronary Arti-venous Fistula should be treated on an emergency note as they may turn into something very deadly (aneurysm may be) lead to sudden death of the patient,” said Dr. Patel.
The patient Kajal Teli, 14 years old girl, reported with symptoms of chest pain and breathlessness since long. On consultation and investigation of Echocardiography it was confirmed the presence of a fistula measuring 5 centimeters near heart. The patient recovered well. The patient was treated free under the flagship scheme of Rajasthan Government’s Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK).
